I wandered lonely as a cloud~William Wordsworth, "I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud," 1804
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze
Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.
ENGLISH METAPHOR :: A metaphor is another kind of comparison. It is actually a condensed simile, for it omits "as" or "like." A metaphor establishes a relationship at once; it leaves more to the imagination than a simile. EXAMPLE POETRY :: Mrs. Moon sitting up in the sky Little Old Lady rock-a-bye with a ball of fading light and silvery needles knitting the night. ~Roger McGough [Mrs. Moon]
