Thirteen, fourteen, maids a-courting. Fifteen, sixteen, maids in the kitchen. Seventeen, eighteen, maids in waiting. Nineteen, twenty, my plate's empty. ~Nursery Rhyme

Some Thoughts... !!..

Neti ! Neti ! Neti ! ~Quintessence Of All Vedas I gained nothing at all from Supreme Enlightenment, and for that very reason it is called Supreme Enlightenment. ~Lord Buddha Life is the sum of all your choices. ~Albert Camus There are years that ask questions, and years that answer. ~Zora Neale Hurston People spend a lifetime searching for happiness; looking for peace. They chase idle dreams, addictions, religions, even other people, hoping to fill the emptiness that plagues them. The irony is the only place they ever needed to search was within. ~Ramona L. Anderson Open your heart - open it wide; someone is standing outside. ~ Mary Engelbreit [Believe: A Christmas Treasury] Listen to the still, small voice. Every time you finish anything, stop, sit (if possible), relax, and ask "Now what?" Listen for the answer. Then do it. ~Author Unknown "...God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble." ~1 Peter 5:5 One can remain alive

Simplest

The greatest truths are the simplest: so likewise are the greatest men. ~Augustus William Hare and Julius Charles Hare, Guesses at Truth, by Two Brothers, 1827

Truth, Half Truth & a Lie

A truth that's told with bad intent beats all the lies you can invent. ~William Blake, "Auguries of Innocence," Poems from the Pickering Manuscript We tell lies when we are afraid... afraid of what we don't know, afraid of what others will think, afraid of what will be found out about us.  But every time we tell a lie, the thing that we fear grows stronger. ~Tad Williams The truth is more important than the facts. ~Frank Lloyd Wright Respect for the truth is an acquired taste. ~Mark Van Doren, Liberal Education , 1943 A little candor never leaves me.  It is what protects me. ~Antonio Porchia, Voces , 1943, translated from Spanish by W.S. Merwin Man is least himself when he talks in his own person.  Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth. ~Oscar Wilde Always tell the truth.  If you can't always tell the truth, don't lie. ~Author Unknown

Charity / Philanthropy :: Sankara Eye Hospital

I resolved to stop accumulating and begin the infinitely more serious and difficult task of wise distribution. ~Andrew Carnegie Past few days have made me respect Philanthropic efforts people make. I realized that some of these donations that people make help not just the poor, but everyone. I strongly recommend one such effort. Its an eye hospital - http://www.facebook.com/sankaraeye - Sankara Eye Care Institutions. Every room in this hospital is donated by people. The service quality is better than any private hospital or government hospital.

Chetan Bhagat :: Balanced Life

Nature designed with a random set of genes and circumstances in which we were born. To be happy, we have to accept it and make the most of nature’s design. Are you? Goals will help you do that. I must add, don’t just have career or academic goals. Set goals to give you a balanced, successful life. I use the word balanced before successful. Balanced means ensuring your health, relationships, mental peace are all in good order. — Chetan Bhagat

Chetan Bhagat :: Four Thunderstorms

I’ve told you the four thunderstorms – disappointment, frustration, unfairness and isolation. You cannot avoid them, as like the monsoon they will come into your life at regular intervals. You just need to keep the raincoat handy to not let the spark die. — Chetan Bhagat

Chetan Bhagat :: People

Life is not to be taken seriously, as we are really temporary here. We are like a pre-paid card with limited validity. If we are lucky, we may last another 50 years. And 50 years is just 2,500 weekends. Do we really need to get so worked up? It’s ok, bunk a few classes, goof up a few interviews, fall in love. We are people, not programmed devices. — Chetan Bhagat

Chetan Bhagat :: Love Marriages Around The World & In India

Love marriages around the world are simple: Boy loves girl. Girl loves boy. They get married. In India , there are a few more steps: Boy loves Girl. Girl loves Boy. Girl's family has to love boy. Boy's family has to love girl. Girl's Family has to love Boy's Family. Boy's family has to love girl's family. Girl and Boy still love each other. They get married.

Lakshmi Shloka :: Hands & Honest Labour

"Karaagre vasathe Lakshmi Karamadhye Saraswathi Karamoolethu Govinda Prabhathey Karadarshanam." The finger tips are ascribed to Goddess Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth, the palm to Goddess Saraswati - the Goddess of learning and the part of hand near the wrist to God. Therefore, every morning, one should have a respectful look at one's hand which symbolizes honest labor.

A Short History of Medicine

A Short History of Medicine 2000 B.C. - "Here, eat this root." 1000 B.C. - "That root is heathen, say this prayer." 1850 A.D. - "That prayer is superstition, drink this potion." 1940 A.D. - "That potion is snake oil, swallow this pill." 1985 A.D. - "That pill is ineffective, take this antibiotic." 2000 A.D. - "That antibiotic is artificial. Here, eat this root." ~Author Unknown

Steven Halpern :: Mozart in Vienna and Sound Levels

When Mozart was composing at the end of the eighteenth century, the city of Vienna was so quiet that fire alarms could be given verbally, by a shouting watchman mounted on top of St. Stefan's Cathedral. In twentieth-century society, the noise level is such that it keeps knocking our bodies out of tune and out of their natural rhythms. This ever-increasing assault of sound upon our ears, minds, and bodies adds to the stress load of civilized beings trying to live in a highly complex environment. ~Steven Halpern

Larry Dossey :: Power of Love on Health

The power of love to change bodies is legendary, built into folklore, common sense, and everyday experience. Love moves the flesh, it pushes matter around.... Throughout history, "tender loving care" has uniformly been recognized as a valuable element in healing. ~Larry Dossey

Quickly be Freed

May all beings everywhere plagued with sufferings of body and mind quickly be freed from their illnesses. May those frightened cease to be afraid, and may those bound be free. May the powerless find power, and may people think of befriending each other. May those who find themselves in trackless, fearful wilderness-- the children, the aged, the unprotected-- be guarded by beneficent celestials, and may they swiftly attain enlightenment. ~A Buddhist Precept
